Tesla to End Cybertruck Production in Mid-2027

Tesla will wind down Cybertruck output at Giga Texas around mid-2027, raise U.S. prices up to 10 percent, and pause orders for the base Dual Motor AWD trim.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said production of the Cybertruck will end around the middle of next year to free factory space for Cybercab output. The move follows low sales and aligns with Tesla's shift toward AI and robotaxi efforts.

Prices rose immediately after the announcement. The Premium AWD now starts at $92,490 and the Cyberbeast at $102,490. Orders for the Dual Motor AWD trim are paused in the U.S. configurator.

The Cybertruck fleet will remain on roads for years, but Tesla will no longer allocate engineering resources to adapt FSD for its unique dimensions.

Giga Texas Adds Night Shift for 24/7 Output

The Austin plant is moving to dual 12-hour shifts through the end of 2026 and skipping holiday shutdowns.

Tesla’s Giga Texas factory has added a night shift to General Assembly, creating two 12-hour production shifts that run Monday through Thursday. The change eliminates the multi-day holiday downtime periods that occurred in prior years around Thanksgiving and Christmas through New Year.

The plant builds the Model Y, Model Y L, Cybertruck and Cybercab. Tesla has not confirmed the schedule change or identified which lines will use the added capacity.

Drone observer Joe Tegtmeyer reported the update on November 2 based on site observations.

“they’re on day and night shifts and they’re going to 12-hour days”

Tesla Publishes New Tendon Robot Hand Patent

The November 5 publication adds details on underactuated fingers and examiner feedback from October 27.

Tesla published a new patent application on November 5 that describes a robot hand using one motor and a single tendon-like cable to drive underactuated fingers. The cable runs along the finger and catches a ledge in the fingertip when pulled, allowing sections to stop independently when they contact an object.

Each finger has two hinged segments with springs at the joints and magnets for position sensing. The design keeps the cable off the knuckles to reduce wear.

The filing shows a humanoid robot hand but does not name Optimus. It builds on earlier patents and received a rejection from the examiner on October 27.

Key facts

  • Patent application filed March 20 and published November 5, 2026.1
  • Single motor pulls one tendon-like cable to actuate underactuated fingers.1
  • Patent examiner pushed back on claims October 27, 2026.1
  • Drawings depict humanoid robot fingers but text names no product.1

Linus Tech Tips Tests Tesla FSD in Canada

Canadian YouTuber Linus Sebastian evaluates FSD Supervised on a Hardware 4 Model 3 during a vehicle swap.

Linus Sebastian of Linus Tech Tips tested Tesla FSD Supervised while borrowing a colleague's HW4 Model 3 for 30 days. He reported positive performance on everyday drives with no steering inputs required initially.

At one intersection the system signaled right then continued straight, forcing Sebastian to brake and disengage. The vehicle lacked a navigation destination at the time. On the return trip he noted zero interventions until the wrong parking lot.

Sebastian, previously a Tesla skeptic who tested comma.ai, found the overall experience impressive despite the incident.

  • The system required no steering wheel inputs on initial drives but prompted intervention at an intersection.1
  • No destination was programmed into navigation during the incident.1
