Researcher Maps Show Tesla Robotaxi Geofences Smaller Than Advertised
New mapping by Koby Pierce shows actual usable pickup areas in Texas markets are 22 to 41 percent smaller than Tesla's advertised geofences.
Independent researcher Koby Pierce used emulators to test real pickup and drop-off availability across Tesla's four Texas Robotaxi markets. The usable zones range from 22 to 41 percent smaller than the boundaries shown in the app, with Austin showing the largest gap at 160 square miles versus the advertised 273 square miles.
Dallas matches most closely at 63 of 81 square miles. Houston covers 188 of 255 square miles after its recent expansion, and Fort Worth covers 105 of 144 square miles. Gaps often align with airports, railroads, and low-population zones, while most residents remain inside the served areas.
Tesla has named Las Vegas, Phoenix, Jacksonville, and San Antonio as upcoming markets.
