Tesla shared a video on X showing the Roadster's center touchscreen interface. The design uses bright red elements on a black background and includes menus for Home, Vehicle, Listen, Climate, and Navigate.

The UI features driving modes such as Comfort, Sport, and Track, along with interactive vehicle visualizations that highlight suspension, battery, and aero settings. A separate small red display near the windshield shows speed and lap times.

Production is not expected until 2028, and the interface may still change before then.

Why it mattersFSD drivers may see similar software layout elements in future Tesla updates even if the Roadster skin stays unique.
  1. Tesla described the Roadster UI as inspired by fighter jet cockpits and designed around the pilot.1
  2. The interface shows PRND, battery percentage, and a wireframe Roadster visualization in red on black.1
  3. Track Mode displays brake inputs, temperatures, G-meter, track map, and aero adjustments.1
  4. The Roadster is on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum through Tuesday.1

Roadster Thrust Prototype on Display at Petersen

The 2028 Tesla Roadster Thrust Prototype is on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles from October 24 to 27.

Image: Not a Tesla App

The exhibit in the Main Lobby marks the first public viewing of the new Roadster since its reveal earlier this month at SpaceX’s test site in McGregor, Texas. The Petersen lists the vehicle as the Thrust Prototype, which features a 200-liter cold-gas thruster system with four rear nozzles.

Tesla plans four Roadster versions. The Thrust trim reaches 0-60 mph in 0.81 seconds. Production is scheduled to begin in 2028, with reservations requiring a $250,000 refundable deposit for the Thrust model.

The car is roped off for viewing only, and the prototype lacks side mirrors, though Tesla says U.S. production cars will include them.

Why it mattersFSD drivers may encounter future Tesla vehicles with advanced active aero and downforce systems similar to those on the Roadster prototype.

Cybercab Adds Rear Camera View to Rider Screen

Tesla has added a live rear camera feed that Austin Cybercab riders can open during trips.

Image: Drive Tesla Canada

The new view appears on the main touchscreen above the driving visualization and arrival time. Riders access it through a camera app in the drawer rather than a permanent display.

The change follows a rider request on October 9 and a Tesla UI engineer reply that the feature was in development. Only the rear camera is available so far, though the original request also covered repeater cameras.

Additional interface updates include a more detailed mini-map, larger arrival time, light mode, persistent Hey Grok card, and live trip sharing options.

Why it mattersFSD drivers may see similar on-demand camera access added to their vehicles in future software updates.

6493 Tesla Shareholders Urge Fast-Track SpaceX Merger

A group of retail investors signed a letter asking Tesla's board to accelerate a potential merger with SpaceX.

Image: Tesla North

A petition organized by Tesla shareholders Alexandra Merz and Amy Steffens collected 6493 signatures representing more than 17.5 million shares in under 48 hours. The letter, sent to the board and its special committee, requests a merger vote once terms are finalized and cites mutual benefits such as chip access for Tesla and Megapacks for SpaceX.

The organizers close the letter on October 25 and plan to deliver it on October 26. Musk stated on SpaceX's October 20 earnings call that both firms formed independent committees at shareholder request and that any deal would require a 50 percent vote of all shares.

The figures are self-reported and unverified. No merger vote appears on the December 3 annual meeting agenda.

Why it mattersA merger could shift Tesla resources and timelines for projects that support FSD development and vehicle production.
  1. 6493 signers holding 17528859 shares submitted the letter in less than 48 hours.1
  2. The letter asks the board to bring a combination to a vote as soon as terms are negotiated and documented.1

NHTSA Proposes Cyan Lights for Driverless Vehicles

The agency filed a proposed rule adding optional cyan marker lamps for autonomous vehicles without steering wheels or pedals.

Image: Not a Tesla App

NHTSA wants to update Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 to allow cyan ADS marker lamps on vehicles like the Cybercab. The lamps would be optional, steady-burning, and limited to one or two per side at least 15 inches off the ground.

The proposed changes appear in the Federal Register on October 26 with a 30-day comment period. They apply only to true driverless operation and would not cover supervised FSD.

NHTSA maintains an open investigation into Cybercab certification even as more than 300 vehicles operate in Austin.

Why it mattersFSD drivers may encounter vehicles using a new visual signal for unsupervised operation once the rule takes effect.
  1. NHTSA filed a proposed rule to modernize FMVSS 108 for autonomous vehicles without steering wheels or pedals, adding optional cyan ADS marker lamps.1
  2. The lamps would be permitted but not required, with one or two cyan lamps allowed on front, sides, and rear, mounted at least 15 inches off the ground and lit steadily.1
  3. NHTSA still has an open investigation into how the Cybercab was certified for commercial deployment.1
